Sunyata (emptiness)

Motivated by compassion, the wise teach sunyata as a remedy for suffering. According to Madhyamika, the root of all suffering lies in the ignorance of clinging, the error of mistaking the relative for the absolute, the conditioned for the unconditioned.

Right View (of "self")

If we approach Zen with a determination to become a better person, we have already fallen into the trap. Such thoughts rise from sakkaya ditthi (wrong view of self), arising from a belief in self as an independent entity in an external world.
